I'm a Careers Leader

Through the Careers Hub you can access...

Support from an Enterprise Coordinator:

  • Your main point of contact with the Careers Hub
  • Facilitate networking with local or similar schools
  • Share knowledge and resources of the local labour market (LMI)
  • Help tailor your careers programme to local priorities and opportunities
  • Connect you with a Business Volunteer (BV) to support specific needs
  • Help you access post-16/18 contacts to meet PAL requirements
  • Support Compass+ evaluations and help develop a strategic action plan
  • Assist in implementing the Careers Impact System and Future Skills Questionnaire

Your EC won’t:

  • Arrange Work experience placements (see our solutions library for support)
  • Source employers for careers fairs and similar events (see our solutions library for support)

Support from a Business Volunteer:

Business Volunteers are experienced industry professionals who have opted in to support the region’s schools and colleges in enhancing impactful careers programmes and experiences.

They will be:

  • From any sector or background
  • Committed to improving outcomes for young people
  • DBS checked

They may be:

  • Skilled in networking, strategic thinking, or being a “critical friend”
  • Matched one-to-one to provide a single institution long term support
  • Working “agile”, supporting multiple institutions on shorter term projects or specific outcomes

Local Career Leader meetings, Communities of Practice, and careers focussed CPD

Held throughout the year, these offer:

  • Peer support and best practice sharing
  • Opportunities to hear from providers and employers
  • CPD sessions
  • Updates on local and national developments

(SEND settings sometimes have specialised events and opportunities. Check with your EC to ensure you are not missing out)

Careers Impact System (CIS)

CIS is a framework for defining high-quality careers provision, mapping the steps to achieving it.

  • Distributes leadership of careers provision, making it everyone’s business
  • Compliments high-quality achieving of Gatsby Benchmarks
  • Aligns careers education with school improvement priorities

Future Skills Questionnaire (FSQ)

Why do you design your careers programme in the way you do? FSQ captures authentic student voice to justify the “why” of the careers programme.

  • Embedded into Compass+ for easy administration and analysis
  • 5 versions to capture effective student voice across all stages of education
  • Mapped against Gatsby Benchmarks, CDI outcomes, and the Skills Builder framework
