The LLEP Youth Advisory Board

We’re really delighted to announce we’re expanding our diverse and representative board of young people, aged 16-24, to add value at the heart of the Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) Careers Hub. Careers Hubs are incubators for innovation, where our mantra of test, learn and adapt is applied locally to improve outcomes for young people, education and employers. 

Our YAB will lead creative and effective projects linked to our Bright Green Futures Initiative of environmentally conscious young employees. There will be a series of opportunities for YAB members to engage and influence our organisation, network of schools, colleges and business volunteers, while gaining valuable experience and transferable employability skills.

The nature and purpose of the board has been shaped by the group itself.

Discussions include:

  • Problem solving with the LLEP
  • Engaging, informing and influencing the LLEP’s networks
  • How we unite the low carbon agenda with the need for young people to experience the world of work, and understand that all future careers and pathways can be bright and must be green
  • Sharing of issues that are important to the organisations /schools they represent

The participants of the Youth Advisory Board will nurture a valuable interface between the YAB and the LLEP and will be a platform to engage adults and young people on topics that are important to them. The YAB will continue to give participants the opportunity to develop transferable employability skills including leadership, networking and presenting skills as well as provide the opportunity to allow young people to shape and influence LLEP Careers Hub activity.

The board plans to engage their peers in careers and sustainability issues through raising awareness of opportunities and/or promoting or providing meaningful work experience and knowledge.

The current board has decided upon the following vision statement for the group going forward:

“Empowering young people to understand and influence the green careers of the future”
