The Headlines
- Investment: £6m
- Project Sponsors: Loughborough University
- Start date: October 2020
- Status: Practically Complete
“SportPark already has the critical mass of the sports sector’s governing bodies and national organisations so its expansion is a natural step to create a vibrant focal point for the Global Sports Hub.”
– Professor Tracy Bhamra, Loughborough University Pro-Vice Chancellor for Enterprise
SportPark was launched in 2010 by Loughborough University at its Science and Enterprise Park (LUSEP) and is connected to Loughborough and Leicester Science and Innovation Enterprise Zone.
Providing 6,000 m2 of accommodation across three ‘Pavilions’, the initial phase of SportPark has been a great success, achieving very high levels of occupancy, excellent collaboration and interaction and creating 600 jobs. SportPark provides the office headquarters for many of the country’s top sports governing bodies and national sports organisations.
This project supports the ambition to complete the SportPark development by constructing Pavilion 4 – a 2,000 m2 extension included in the original building design. Pavilion 4 will provide specific space to enable the growth of the successful sports cluster at LUSEP, and to confirm Leicestershire’s leading place in the sports economy.
In addition to inter-collaboration, SportPark’s tenants benefit from co-location with LUSEP’s wider innovation community, the University’s world-leading expertise in sports science, engineering, health and well-being and the UK’s highest concentration of athletes, studying and training at Loughborough.
The successful development of this project will stimulate further demand and will play a role in the growth of the sports-related cluster at LUSEP.
