Careers chiefs meet to reflect on LLEP Careers Hub’s work

A roundtable discussion about careers education in Leicester and Leicestershire explored ways to build on recent successes and develop the local offer further.

The Careers and Enterprise Company’s chief executive Oli de Botton met with key Careers Hub partners to hear about local initiatives.

Leicester and Leicestershire’s Local Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) chief executive Phoebe Dawson headed up a guest list which also included members of the LLEP board and staff from local authorities, further education institutions, schools, employers and members of the Careers Hub’s Youth Advisory Board.

Gerarde Manley, strategic lead for the LLEP Careers Hub, said:

It was a pleasure to welcome Oli and to talk him through some of the great work happening locally.

We shared our recently published five year impact report with him which helped demonstrate the difference the Careers Hub makes and also discussed our priorities for the next year.

It was a great opportunity to get Oli’s feedback and also network with key local partners, without whom a lot of what we do couldn’t happen.

Other topics on the agenda included ways to stimulate more high-quality meaningful experiences of workplaces in Leicester and Leicestershire for young people and improving the work readiness of local young people.

Phoebe Dawson, LLEP chief executive, said: 

Much progress has been made by our Careers Hub since it launched in 2018 and the LLEP Board recently agreed to extend its funding through to August 2024.

It was great to discuss its work with Oli and others and explore ways of building on its success.
